Gladys Splittstoesser

Gladys Splittstoesser, 102, of Fergus Falls, died on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Mill Street Residence, surrounded by her children.

Gladys Susan Splittstoesser was born March 21, 1915 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of John (Jack) Roehl and Hulda Dalleuge. She was baptized on July 2, 1915 and confirmed on May 20, 1928 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Gladys attended District # 54, a one room school house on highway 59. When the family moved to Fergus Falls she attended Lincoln, Jefferson, Trinity Parochial School and Fergus Falls High School.

Gladys worked in Minneapolis and Wheaton where she met her husband, Leo Joseph Fasbender. They were married in 1935, at Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Correll for 25 years. To this union three children were born, James, Shirley and Thomas. Leo passed away in 1959.  Gladys married Edgar Splittstoesser in 1972 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. They operated South Turtle Lake Resort near Underwood along with Edgar’s brother, Lloyd for 20 years. They sold the resort in 1980 and moved into Fergus Falls in 1990. Edgar passed away in 2002. Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the V.F.W.

Her special interests were quilting, floral arranging, bingo, cards, pool, dancing and making new friends. Gladys loved volunteering at the Seniors Center where she participated in various activities.

She is preceded in death by her son, James; granddaughter, Susan Iler; both husbands, Leo and Edgar; brothers, John Jr, George and Harry Roehl; sisters Esther Gunderson, Irma Enderson, Leona Diederich and Helen Geske and daughter-in-law, Jeannine Toner.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Dean) Miller of Willmar and son, Thomas Toner of Zimmerman; a granddaughter, Anne (Brent) Surerus of Raymond; three great grandsons, Jonathan, and Joshua Surerus of Raymond and Colton Iler of Foley; a sister, Mildred Wilde of Battle Lake plus several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church
