GLORIA ANN (PAPINEAU) PESCH
Gloria Ann was born on March 22, 1926, to Fred and Pearl (Cutler) Papineau in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. She was baptized at the Ivanhoe Methodist, Church, attended grade school in Canby, and graduated from Marshall High School in 1944. Gloria worked as a bookkeeper in Marshall and Sioux Falls for approximately 10 years.
Gloria and Donald Pesch were married on February 6, 1954, and moved to the Ashby area to farm. Together they raised three daughters: Judy, Anita, and Brenda.
Having grown up in town, Gloria acquired the many talents of becoming a farmwife and mother working side by side with Donnie's mother…gardening, canning, and lots of cooking. She made many lifelong friends through her Homemakers and Birthday Clubs. She was active in the Ashby American Legion Auxiliary and the First Presbyterian Church. Needlework, gardening, and playing games and cards were favorite pastimes. As a woman of faith, her caring and concern were expressed through a multitude of birthday and greeting cards. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she rarely missed a concert, recital, or sporting event.
On Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the age of 88, Gloria passed away at Douglas County Hospital surrounded by her daughters.
Gloria is survived by her three daughters, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren: Judy (Larry Sonmor) Bertram and Anita (Lon) Rylander of Ashby, and Brenda (Mark) Gillaspey of Belle Plaine; Ian (Bonnie) Bertram, Tristan; Ericka (Eric) Medberry, Isla Dee; Ceara (Jared) Solheim, Mason; Jason (Darcy) Rylander, Rivers and Cove; Dallas (Alexis) Rylander, Carver and Brooks; Jessica (Mike) Osberg; Zachary (Tiffany Thompson) Gillaspey. She is also survived by siblings Maxine (Tom) Yeo, Phyllis (Tony) Hennen, Gerald "Joe" (Judy) Papineau, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her son-in-law, Ronald Bertram; and infant grandson, Jacob Gillaspey.
