Gloria Williams, 94, of Ashby died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at her residence.
Gloria Lauretta Williams was born August 14, 1922, in Coon Creek Township near Russell, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Victor and Gail (Lang) Johnson. After graduating from Russell High School, she married Carroll Williams on June 21, 1941 at Tracy, Minnesota. Soon after their wedding, Carroll entered the US Navy and served until 1946. Farming then became their career, first at Tyler, and then Marshall until 1963. During that time they became parents of three sons. In addition to being a homemaker, mother and farm helper, Gloria added more work to her busy life by taking into their home, friends and family members who needed a safe, loving place to stay. While in Marshall, Gloria worked for Carrow's Cleaners and Traveler's Lodge; in 1981 in Ashby she worked for Pelican Lake Nursing Home and later at Dave's Short Stop.
Gloria was active in the community, enjoying membership at First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and Living Treasures Garden Club. Throughout her entire life she was passionate about gardening, baking, cooking, and preparing meals for many friends, relatives, and strangers alike. Entering produce and pies at county fairs became an annual event, and even more satisfying to her was sharing her pies and flowers with shut-ins and neighbors. It was Gloria's faith in Christ and the gift of hospitality that brought about her lifetime commitment to serving friends and family.
She is survived by three sons: David (Kristen) Williams, Donald (Cookie) Williams, all of Ashby, MN; and Daniel (Sharon) Williams of Lynd, MN; six grandchildren: Jeff, Rich, Becky, and Jamie Williams, Kimberly Bailey, and Randi Winter; five great-grandchildren: Maddie, Katie, McKenna, Sienna, and Jayden; brother-in-law Merlyn Cadwell of Marshall, MN; sister-in-law Diane Karlstad of Lynd, MN; brother-in-law, Doug Karlstad of Lynd, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Carroll, her parents, sister Darlene, and four brothers: Maurice, Arlo, Rodney, and Robert Johnson.
