Glorianne Marsyl (Anderson) Swenson, age 71, of rural Fergus Falls died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Glorianne was born on February 6, 1943 in Fergus Falls, MN, the daughter of Joseph Malcolm and Clara Myrtle Annie (Braaten) Anderson. She was baptized February 21, 1943 by the Reverend P.K. Beuide at Vang Lutheran Free Church of rural Fergus Falls and was confirmed May 19, 1957 by the Reverend John Parbst at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She attended Sunday school at Vang and was a member there until 1966 when she became a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls for 28 years. She has been a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls since 1995.
Glorianne grew up on the Anderson farm by Fish Lake in Aurdal Township and attended rural school at District #247 for eight years. She graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1961 with honors. From 1961 to 1963 she attended and graduated from the Lake Region Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in Fergus Falls as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
On July 14, 1963, she was united in marriage to (Aaron) Wayne Swenson at the Vang Lutheran Free Church by Reverend Palmer E. Sevig. They lived for a brief time in Sidney, MT where she worked at the Community Memorial Hospital. She then moved with her husband to her family farm to assist when her father, Joe, was ill.
In January 1964, they moved to Moorhead, MN where Glori worked at Dakota Clinic in Fargo, ND. In 1966 they moved to Fergus Falls where she worked at Lake Region Hospital. She was a stay-at-home Mom from 1967 until 1980. When she re-entered the workforce, she was employed in various settings around Fergus Falls and met many wonderful people along the way. In 1996 when she became ill, she wasn't able to work away from home any longer.
Glorianne looked at her disabilities as an opportunity to walk closer with her Lord and share her faith with others. She spent hours doing creative writing, singing, public speaking and enjoying her grandchildren which she considered her greatest gifts from God. She was a successful freelance writer, being published in several magazines, newspapers, and anthologies—including CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL series. She became an author when her book PITS and PRAISES was published in 2011.
Over the years she volunteered in her churches teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir as well as vocal solos in the church and community, belonged to circles, WELCA and WMF, and served on many committees. She served on the board of Vang Cemetery Association for several years. She was a member of Fergus Falls Faculty Wives, the Fergus Falls Writers Group, the Otter Tail County Historical Society, and A Center For The Arts. She was also a Lakeland Hospice Volunteer for many years.
She further expanded her education over her lifetime by taking classes at the Fergus Falls Community College and Community Education Classes. She took training and became MN Certified for Long Term Care Nursing Assistant. She had a passion for continuing education classes, workshops and seminars dealing with death & dying, grief and bereavement.
Glorianne played the piano by ear and shared her music with others over the years. She was also organist and soloist at the Funeral Home when she worked there. She loved antiques & collectibles and genealogy. She was a very loving, caring and helping person and demonstrated this character throughout her lifetime.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant son Jonathan Wayne, an infant granddaughter Anna Swenson, and a sister Janice Prechel.
Survivors include her husband Wayne of Fergus Falls, MN; sons Mark (Laurie) Swenson of East Grand Forks, MN and Kurt (FayE) Swenson of Beulah, ND, a daughter Jennifer (David) Stans of Fergus Falls, MN; eight grandchildren, Michael Swenson of East Grand Forks, MN, Joseph and Warren Swenson of Beulah, ND, Mariah Martinson, Emma Stans, Ava Stans, Kaitlyn Stans and Shelby Stans of Fergus Falls, MN; a sister Deborah (David) Haiby of Rio Rancho, NM, and a brother Curtis (Cindy) Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials are preferred to Calvary Free Lutheran Church or the Vang Cemetery Association.
Visitation: Friday, 1-16-15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with a public prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and visitation resumes one hour prior to services at the church.
Service: Saturday, 1-17-15 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Free Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN.
