Gordon Stumbo

Gordon L. Stumbo, 100, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 27, 2022, at Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Gordon LeRoy Stumbo was born October 2, 1921 near Lake Park, MN and grew up near Ulen where he attended rural school. He graduated from the Hitterdahl High School and then attended trade school in Glenwood. In August of 1942 he entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Aleutian Islands during WWII for one and a half years. He was discharged in November if 1945.

Following his military service, he met Ruth Kile and they were married June 19, 1946 in Detroit Lake. They farmed near Ulen for nine years and then moved to Minneapolis where Gordon began working for Case Industrial Equipment which also took him to Montana and Wyoming. In 1961, he went to work for Midland Cooperative and was manager in Fergus Falls for eight years. They also lived in Iowa and North Dakota while he continued to manage for Midland. In 2006 they moved back to Fergus Falls after living in the Seattle-Tacoma, WA area.

His top priorities in life were his faith in Jesus Christ and his family. He enjoyed painting homes, doing mechanic work and crossword puzzles.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, son Paul, parents Burley and Carrie, four sisters, two brothers, and two grandsons.

He is survived by his children Frances (Will) Tanner, Linda (Michael) Head, Kathryn Stumbo, Bruce (Laurel) Stumbo, John (Sara) Stumbo, Margaret (Steven) Sellars, Elaine (Jim) Bacon, Dean (Sherri) Stumbo, Gwen Alexander, Joseph Stumbo; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister Jean Nieman; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Memorial service to be held 10:30 AM, Monday, September 5, 2022 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls with a visitation beginning at 9:30

Private Interment to be held later at Walworth Baptist Cemetery, Ulen
