Gwen R. Olson, 71, of Alexandria, formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Knute Nelson.
Gwendolyn Rae Olson was born on May 20, 1941 in Willmar, MN, the daughter of Glenn and Eleanor (Thang) Johnson. Gwen grew up and attended school in Willmar, eventually moving to California in 1955.
Gwen married Joe Stewart in Pacoima, California in 1960, and they were blessed with two sons: Scott and David, and they remained in California for several years.
Gwen later met and married Lydon Olson of Evansville. The couple owned and operated the Melby Outpost in Melby for twelve years.
In her retirement years, she loved caring for animals of all kinds. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was very kind hearted and helped anyone in need.
Gwen is survived by her son, Scott (Sandi) Stewart of Evansville; step-daughter, Wendy (Dan) Schaub; sister, Margo Feist of Arizona; grandchildren: Josh (Jess) Stewart, Tricia Stewart and Grace Stewart; step-grandchildren, Shawna Hough, Zach (Kayla) Bitzan, Adam Korkowski and Billie Rae Korkowski; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Stewart; son, David Stewart; a niece, Annie Peters; step-son, Mark Olson; and step-granddaughter, Mandy Bitzan.
Memorial Service: 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Christina Lake Lutheran Church, rural Evansville
Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Monday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville
Clergy: Interim Minister Minette Johnson
Interment: Christina Lake Lutheran Cemetery
