Helen Paulson, 96, of Battle Lake died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Helen Louise Paulson was born on March 2, 1918 in Englevale, North Dakota the daughter of Axel and Jensine Stokhaug. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Helen attended Country School Dist. #146 in Ottertail Township then continued her education with the Battle Lake Public School.
Helen married Oscar Jonson in 1939. They together lived in Battle Lake and had one daughter, Viola. Oscar died in1952. She married Maynard Paulson on August 11, 1957 in the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, Minnesota. She was employed candling eggs with Simon Produce, Park Region Hatchery, Nakagaki Chicken Farm and then fifteen years with Paul Deutsch Poultry Farm. Helen had worked at Ranstad Café, Moen Inn and then ten years as a sales clerk with the Coast-To-Coast Store all of Battle Lake. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, and sewed quilts for the church for many years. Helen was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Viola (Charles) Johnson of Appleton, WI; three grandchildren, Bill (Kim) Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, Kathleen (Rick) Nelson of Muskego, WI and Cynthia (Mark) Roth of Appleton, WI.; six great-grandchildren, Gracie, Charlize, Rush, Mandie, Shelly and Krystal; one sister, Mildred (Tony) Piano of Milwaukee, WI.
Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Oscar in 1952 and Maynard in 2001; parents, Axel and Jensine Stokhaug; one brother, Victor Stokhaug; and by seven siblings.
