Howard Woldtvedt

Howard Woldtvedt, 88, of Fergus Falls, formerly Ashby, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls.

He was born August 23, 1922 in rural Ashby to Halvor and H. Christine (Midbin-Olson) Woldtvedt. He was the youngest of six children. He grew up in Ashby and graduated from Ashby High School. He was a lifelong member of Trinity/Peace Lutheran Church. He worked as a postal clerk at the Ashby post office. On December 30, 1944, Howard joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in the Phillipines. On November 10, 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Ashby. On December 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lois Irene Akerman. The couple made their home in rural Ashby. Howard was employed at the FarmerA�A�A½s Produce. In the fall of 1953, they moved, along with their first daughter, Marilyn, to northern Minnesota where Howard began his career as an iron worker. In 1961, they moved back to Ashby. His career as an iron worker took him to several western states and Alaska. In 1981, Howard retired from iron working. In the fall of 2010, Howard and Lois moved to Fergus Falls.

Howard enjoyed coffee with his friends, traveling, reading and current events. He liked a spirited debate on politics or religion. In his later years, he traveled with family to Norway where he was able to visit his father's home place. Howard was a member of the Pederson-Tripp American Legion Post 357 of Ashby, VFW Post 612 of Fergus Falls, and the Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge #25 of Fargo, ND.

Howard is survived by his wife Lois of Fergus Falls; his children: Marilyn (Andy) Beyer of Kent, Linda (Gary) Ness of Ashby, Allen (Robin) Woldtvedt of Broken Arrow, OK, Harlan Woldtvedt of Oceanside, CA and Karen (Chris) Lee of Moorhead; seven grandchildren: Kevin and Wesley Ness, Cody, Kelsi and Kristin Woldtvedt, Keegan and Jeana Lee; and two great-grandchildren: Ethan Ness and Brianna Ness. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Gustav, Irving, Edward and Omar and one sister, Marcella Woldtvedt.
