Irene M. Jonson, 87 of Battle Lake died Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Irene M. Jonson was born on May 7, 1924 in Norwegian Grove Township, rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota the daughter of Edward and Thea (Strandlin) Holt. She was baptized and confirmed in the North Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended school in Pelican Rapids.
Irene and John Jonson were married on July 15, 1947, they lived in Battle Lake and in 1958 they built their home on Lakeshore Drive. Irene and John owned and operated the Park Region Hatchery and Mill until retiring in October of 1990. Irene was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake Senior Citizens, Red Hat Ladies and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and was a peoples person who enjoyed friends and family and especially her grandchildren. In October of 2010 she moved into the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Peggy) Jonson of Henning; one daughter, Nancy (Tim) Miller of Moorhead; one son-in-law, Orly Bjerketvedt of Clitherall; four grandchildren and families, Robert (Elidia) Jonson, Bryan and Brittney of Enterprise, Alabama, Kelley Jonson of Ortonville, Dr. Gary M. (Amy) Jonson and Henry of Eden Prairie and John (Lacey) Severson, Maddelyn and Kenley of Alexandria; two brothers, Wally (Marlys) Holt and Virgil Holt all of Barnesville; two sisters, Geneva Adams of St. Paul and Francis Axness of Pelican Rapids; three sisters-in-law, Janet Holt of Barnesville, Mavis Holt of Pelican Rapids and Eleanora Holt of Fergus Falls; and by numerous relatives and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Thea Holt, husband, John Jonson; daughter, Rita Bjerketvedt; son-in-law, Dave Severson Jr.; four brothers, Eugene, Lawrence, Curtis and Wayne Holt; two sisters and their husbands, Hazel and Ed Borg and Marion and Lloyd Pederson; and by one sister-in-law, Evean Holt.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 6 pm with a Prayer Service at 5:30 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake
