Irvin Sandahl

Irvin Sandahl, 85 of Fergus Falls, passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Irvin "Irv" Vernon was born on February 23, 1931, to Leonard and Nora (Anderson) Sandahl of Norwegian and Danish heritage in Nidaros Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He attended grade school at Otter Tail County District #33 and graduated from Henning High School in 1949. He attended the Minnesota School of Business for two years in Accounting and Business Law.

On August 3, 1951, he married Marian Christopherson in Vining, MN. They would have celebrated their 65th Anniversary in August. They lived in Barstow, California, the Twin Cities area, Cambridge, Battle Lake and Fergus Falls.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 19. He served as Deacon, Usher and Treasurer in various churches. He also taught Sunday School, worked with AWANA and Boys Brigade. He is a member of the CrossRoads Church in Fergus Falls.

Irvin entered the United States Marine Corps in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954.

As a young man, Irv worked at the Vining and Lakeville Creameries, Moorhead Sugar Beet Plant, a railroad repair crew, and on a ranch in Montana. He worked as an accountant for the Pillsbury Company of Minneapolis for 10 years and the State of Minnesota for 6 years. From 1974 to 1978, along with his brother-in-law, he owned and operated Lake Wood Products of Battle Lake and then worked for Otter Tail County Social Services for 15 years, retiring on December 1, 1993.

He enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting and wintering in Arizona and Texas. He made many Christmas gifts for his children. He was also an inventor and received a Patent for his "Pop-Up Bait Server", receiving Honorable Mention among many inventors at the Minnesota Inventors Congress in Redwood Falls.

Preceding him is death were his parents, Leonard and Nora, and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Marian; two daughters, Marcia (Bill) Rose of Underwood and Laurie (Charles) Grotte of Fergus Falls; two sons, Dale (Lael) Sandahl of Detroit Lakes, and Todd (Brenda) Sandahl of New York Mills; seven grandchildren, Amanda Rose, Greta Rose (Neil Clementson), Tracee (Gene) Cupstid, Benjamin (Becky) Sandahl, Taylor Sandahl, Amy (Chris) Lundin and Matti Grotte; nine great grandchildren, Oliver, Ruby, Sawyer, Charlie, William, Lucy Joy, Evan, Lucy Romayne and Henry; one brother, LeRoy (Loris) Sandahl of Henning; three sisters, June Silbernagel of Billings, Montana, LaVay (Larry) Wallevand of Henning and LouAnn (James) Peterson of Henning; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services: 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2016 at CrossRoads Church in Fergus Falls

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
