Isabelle "Belle" Tordsen, age 94, of Fergus Falls, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Broen Home, Fergus Falls.
Isabelle Tordson was born December 3, 1917 in Dane Prairie Township, the daughter of Jens and Hannah (Christiansen) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Tordensjold Lutheran Church by Rev. E. Berlie. Isabelle attended rural school District 43 and graduated from Fergus Falls High School with the class of 1937 after which she attended Moorhead State Teachers College receiving her teacher's certificate and taught in rural areas.
On June 15, 1940 Isabelle married Ralph Dahlen. They lived in Aastad Township where they farmed and had 3 sons, James, Douglas and Joel. Isabelle was a member of Aastad Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and taught Sunday school for 13 years. She was also a member of Homemakers. After 19 years she renewed her teaching certificate and went back to teaching. Ralph suffered a fatal heart attack on August 3, 1962 and died after 21 years of marriage. With her sons, she continued to live on their farm in Aastad Township and continued teaching.
On July 20, 1966 Isabelle married Elmer Tordsen of Orwell Township where they farmed. She became an active member of the Wilcox Mission and Sunshine Club. She also belonged to the TOPS 400 club. After 12 years, they retired and purchased land and a home in Maine Township. They enjoyed their move and became members of Tingvold Lutheran Church. She was a member of Ladies Aid and the Dorcas Mission. Elmer died August 1, 1998. Isabelle then sold the farm and moved into an apartment in Fergus Falls. For the past 4 years she has lived at Park Gardens in Fergus Falls.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking and cooking. Isabelle loved and enjoyed her children, grand children and great-grandchildren.
Isabelle is survived by her sons, James (friend Marge) of Dent, Doug (Karen) of Fergus Falls and Joel (Renee) of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren, Bethany (Kevin) Kurschner, Mathieu (Michele) Dahlen, Naomi (Greg) Fynboh, Mark Dahlen, Joseph Dahlen, Sara Dahlen, Jody (Jeff) Bratcher, Rebecca (Donald) Rocholl, Cody Dahlen and Brittany Dahlen; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Pearl Jensen of Fergus Falls and Harriet Meyer of Fergus Falls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands; grandson, Kevin Dahlen; brothers and sister-in-laws, Kermit (Laura), George and Orville (Myra) Jensen; brother-in-law, Fritz Meyer; and nephew, David Jensen.
Funeral Services: 2 PM, Friday, December 9, 2011 at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
Visitation: 3-5 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with a Prayer Service at 4 PM - and one hour prior to the service at the church
