Iva Schmidt

Iva Schmidt, 89, of Fergus Falls, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at her residence.

Iva LaVonne was born on August 27, 1927, the daughter of Robert and Esther (Gieseke) Reardon in Medina, ND. She grew up in Twin Valley and graduated from high school there. Iva and her sister attended Western Union Telegraph School and moved to Seattle, WA to work.

Iva and Wayne Schimdt were married on April 5, 1947 in Twin Valley, MN. The couple had one child, Paul. They lived in Fargo-Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Ohio, Washington D.C. as well Pennsylvania where they built a cabin when they retired.

She worked for the federal government in several different offices in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. The couple later moved back to Fergus Falls where they currently reside. When Iva suffered a sudden stroke, Wayne served as her faithful caregiver around the clock for 5 ½ years.

Iva was active in Tourist Promotion Agency, past president of Becker County Homemakers, Augustana Church WELCA, Sunday school teacher and 4H leader. She was a self-taught seamstress, enjoyed hand quilting and belonged to quilt club in Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Wayne Schmidt of Fergus Falls; son, Paul (Susie) Schmidt of Orbisonia, PA; grandson, Alann (Tracy) Schmidt of Orbisonia, PA; one brother, Curtis (Evelyn) Reardon of Twin Valley; three sisters, Donna (Charles) Sain of McConnellsburg, PA, Gloria (K. Douglas) Sandvold of Stillwater, OK and June Carvel of Bismarck, ND.

Iva is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Reardon and granddaughter, Christie Schmidt.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, MN
