James Schoon

James “Jim” Schoon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

James Duane was born on September 13, 1937, in LaMoure, North Dakota, the son of Ernest and Bertha “Peggy” (Petersen) Schoon. He was baptized and later confirmed in 1955 into the Christian Faith. Jim graduated from Fergus Falls, High School in 1955. In his early years he drove school bus. He later started his business, JD’s Locks and Keys.

In October of 1989, he married Judy Stauffer in Fergus Falls. Jim was the most loving, caring, compassionate, Christian man.  He loved his family and he loved the Lord.  He was a shining example of Christ’s love for mankind.  He loved helping others, whether it was fixing things, building things or unlocking things.  He loved his tractors and lawn mowing and He loved fishing and hunting.  He dedicated 24 years to working for the State of MN taking care of the roads in Otter tail county.  He owned his own unlock business for many years Cheapest unlocks.  No charge on Sundays (or if you didn’t have any money!) Jim also drove City Cab where he enjoyed socializing with his clients as he drove them to their destination. God Bless the Memory of James D. Schoon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; children, Jess (Melissa) Schoon, Chris Schoon, Lisa (Chris Grier) Whipps and Tim (Jamie) Whipps; grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew) Christenson, Jack and Logan Schoon, Caitlyn and Jace Schoon, Pat (Liz) Lenihan, Zach (Kellie), Abbi (Jacob Guenther) and TJ Whipps; great grandchildren, Kaenan Christenson, Keegan and Colton Whipps and Jameson Lenihan; sisters in law, Bev and Alice Schoon and dog, Hope along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Peggy; brothers, Ervin, Gary, Keith and Billy and sister, LaNore Hanson and Scott Whipps.

Memorial Gathering: Monday, January 8, 2024, from 4-6 P.M, with a 6 PM Prayer Service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
