Janice Elaine Rieken

Janice Elaine Rieken, born August 5, 1938 in Fergus Falls, passed away on August 11, 2024. Janice was baptized and confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church in rural Ashby, MN. She attended District 67 – Battle Lake High school, and graduated in 1956. She attended Wahpeton State School of Science LPN Training. Janice began employment in 1957 at Lake Region Health Care in the Birth Suite and retired in 2000, after 43 years of service. On November 22, 1958, she married Dale Rieken at the Grue Church. 

 She enjoyed working with babies and the friends made at LRH. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; going to garage sales, buying for whoever might be in need, she enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and rabbits; enjoyed making photo books and scrapbooks for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She is survived by son, Loren Rieken of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Jeremy Dorn of Fergus Falls, Micah (Laura Kielb) Rieken of Underwood, and Tyson Rieken of Underwood; great-grandchildren, Abby Dorn of Fergus Falls and Katie Dorn of East Grand Forks.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Lori; infant son, Lowell Donavan; brothers James and Dennis Bowman; and parents Ernest and Hazel. 

A memorial for Janice will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, 11:00 am at Glende- Nilson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Friends and family will gather following the service for a lunch at the funeral home.
