Jeanette Delaine (Dahlberg) Geer, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She bravely battled dementia her last several years, maintaining her kind and gracious spirit.
Jeanette was born on September 23, 1938, in Colfax Township, Kandiyohi County, the fourth child of George and Florence Dahlberg. She was delivered at home by neighbor Winnie Olson. She weighed 4 lbs. at birth and was small enough to fit in a shoe box.
Some of Jeanette’s favorite childhood memories included: sitting by the radio with her family in the evening listening to Fibber McGee and Molly and Laurel and Hardy, spending Sunday afternoons at Sibley State Park, and then stopping at the Como Beach store for ice cream, riding her special dog named Backache, playing fox and geese with cousins in the new snow, and watching her mom butcher and can chickens and meatballs, grape juice and sauce. Jeanette also enjoyed harvest, the county fair, and listening to the snow crunch as the horses pulled the sleigh to the neighbors for visits on cold winter nights.
Jeanette attended District 10 School through 6th grade, each day walking the long way to school. Following country school, she attended Belgrade High School, graduating in 1956. Jeanette was employed in the New London-Spicer schools for 26 years. She loved working with children, helping them learn to read and reach their potential.
On April 26, 1958, Jeanette married Bill Geer at the Covenant Church in New London. They were married for 48 years, having three children. The days together as a family were filled with happy times of camping, trips to visit Grandma Geer in Arizona, days at Lake Florida and Lake Andrew with cousins, and birthday parties. Jeanette also enjoyed teaching Sunday School at the Willmar Assemblies of God for many years.
Later in life, Jeannette lived in Rothsay and eventually moved to Fergus Falls. Always one to be active, she enjoyed walking, gardening, and playing games. Jeanette’s true joy was her six grandchildren, spending time with them as they grew and attending their events. She was always eager to craft, bake, sew and play outside. She was a joyful person who radiated the love of Christ to her family and all those around her.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters Julie (Bret) Lindsay of Moorhead, Minnesota and their children Paden Lindsay of Honolulu, Hawaii, Paige (Mark) Boese of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Parker (Savannah) Lindsay of Rothsay, Minnesota; and Laurie Seay and her daughter Tess of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Jane Geer and granddaughters Ellie and Annie Geer of New London, Minnesota; brothers Kenny (Donna) Dahlberg of Kandiyohi, Minnesota, and Gary (Pam) Dahlberg of Willmar, Minnesota; 2 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, Dale, brothers LeRoy and Donald, and sister, Lucille.
A Celebration of Life picnic is being planned at the Sibley State Park Cedar Hill Picnic Area in New London, Minnesota at noon on July 20, 2024.
