Jeffrey Nelson, 55 of Richfield, Minnesota formerly of Battle Lake died Sunday, October 23, 2011 at his home.
Jeffrey Lane Nelson was born on February 18, 1956 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of Norman and LaVerne (Johnson) Nelson. He was baptized, confirmed and was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Amor.
Jeff attended Country School District #544 through the eighth grade and graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1975. He continued his education at the Moorhead Technical College in Accounting, graduating in 1977. Jeff worked in Fargo for a short time. In 1980, he began working for National Car Rental in the main office in Bloomington, where he was employed for twenty years. Jeff most recently was with Wells Fargo as a mortgage consultant.
Through all his physical challenges he remained cheerful and helpful to others. He had wonderful next door neighbors and friends, John and Lidia Grabow. Against many adversities, Jeff was very independent and he owned his own home in Richfield. He was active in the Republican Party during primaries and elections. Jeff attended House of Prayer in Richfield. Jeff was an avid deer hunter and was looking forward to sitting in his new enclosed stand built by his brother, Virgil.
Jeff is survived by his mother, LaVerne Nelson of Battle Lake; siblings, Virgil Nelson of St. Cloud; Louise (Doug) Anderson of Fergus Falls; Peter Nelson of Nevis and Kermit (Lori) Nelson of Ottertail; nieces and nephews, Sarah (Eric) Hartley of Duluth, Tina (Richard) Anderson of Rice, Heidi (Eric) Scott of Saratoga, Wy., Ryan Anderson and friend Lindsey Bauck of Fergus Falls, Annie (Rod) Nuthak of Williston, ND, Lindsey (Matt) Kugler of Dalton, Michelle Anderson of Fergus Falls and Brandi Nelson of Ottertail; great-nieces and great-nephews, Austin and Makayla Anderson of Rice, Sonia Nelson of Duluth, Gracyn and Ricky Kugler of Dalton and Hank Scott of Saratoga, Wy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Norman C. Nelson; aunts and uncles, Roy (Neola) Nelson, Edwin (Alice) Pederson, Julian Nelson, David Ohman and Morris Rice; and by one cousin, Bonnie Johnson.
Funeral Service: 11 am Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, rural Battle Lake.
Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
