Jerry Alan Nelson

Battle Lake

Jerry was born on April 21, 1950, to Paul and Iola Nelson. He graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1968 and Wahpeton State School of Science. In 1974 he met Betty Ann Mulder and they were married on April 19th, 1975. To this marriage came Jeremy, David, and Matthew.

Jerry started life on a dairy farm and as a teenager drove a dairy truck. At the onset of the Vietnam War, he was drafted into the army serving in Washington DC with the Honor Guard. He continued his service post-war with the Army Reserves until his retirement 40 years later. Further serving his community, he was active in the American Legion, in Underwood, MN, attending meetings, sponsoring events, and volunteering his time. Jerry was a lifetime (Baptized and Confirmed) member of First Lutheran Church volunteering in multiple roles and serving the congregation. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Iola Nelson, mother and father-in-law, William and Helen Mulder, and brother-in-law John Mulder.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Betty, and Sons, Jeremy (Stacy), David (Rachel), and Matthew. Grandchildren, Madison, Grant, Molly, Henry, Harvey, Harrison, Hannah, Dessa, Vera, Madeline, Merissa, and great-grandchildren Cora and Ivy. Siblings, Mike (Susanne) Nelson, Carol Nelson, Laurie (Vic) Zelinsky. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and families.

Funeral Service: 11 AM on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake with visitation 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

There is a lunch following the service and then a celebration at the Underwood Legion following lunch.
