Joan G. Wagner, 85, of Henning, MN, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Henning, MN.
Joan Gertrude Hagert was born March 13, 1931 in Wanda, MN, the daughter of Michael and Madeline (Eichten) Hagert. She attended country school and went on to work as a nanny in Minneapolis.
She married Maurice J. Wagner on August 29, 1953 in Lindstrom, Minnesota, and they were blessed with six children.
Joan and Maurice moved to the state of Virginia, where Maurice was stationed with the U.S. Army for three years. A short time later, the family moved to Ada, Minnesota, and later settled in the Twin Cities, where Maurice worked construction. Joan held several jobs over the years, including work in factories, waitressing, and spent much time raising her children. From 1975 – 1999, Joan and Maurice lived in Vining, and later in Battle Lake.
In her spare time, Joan enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, cards, and puzzles. Most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joan was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, and along with her husband, was very active in the church.
Joan is survived by five children, Brenda (Clayton Snyder) Johnson of Choteau, Montana, Gail (Rick) Vittetoe of Wadena, Dean (Kristi Munson) Wagner of Tioga, ND, Mary (Joseph) Olson of Wadena, Greg (Karen) Wagner of Marion, WI; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Ralph Hagert of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Teresa (Merrill) Peltier of Sioux Falls, Marjorie (Ron) Johnson of St. Croix Falls, WI, and Karen (Larry) Gardner of Natchez, Mississippi; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Hagert of Sanborn, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice in 1999; a son, David; and siblings, Mary and Theodore.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Tuesday, with a 6:30 PM Rosary, followed by a Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 AM Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake
