John L. Erickson, 70 of rural Clitherall died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at his home.
John Loren Erickson was born on February 27, 1945, the son of Loren and Flora (Hanson) Erickson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. John attended the Starbuck and Brandon Public Schools.
John and Mary Ellen Bertrand were united in marriage on November 6, 1965, in the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Brandon. After their marriage they lived and farmed together by Millerville until 1970, when they purchased their present farm in Leaf Mountain Township, rural Clitherall. John farmed most of his life, and did as much farming as he could with his horses. In his younger years he drove minnow truck for Paul Koep and after selling his milk cows he was employed with the Henning Hatchery. He enjoyed both draft and saddle horses, visiting and having coffee with family and friends, going on the Grant County Wagon Train and all the farm life activities. He had belonged to the Heart of the Lakes Saddle Club and as a child was a Cub Scout. He enjoyed farm life, the outdoors, deer hunting with his grandsons, did most of his own mechanic work, his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Jodi (Jon) Trosdahl of Battle Lake; two sons, John R. (Ronda) Erickson of Clitherall and Raymond Erickson of Fargo; four grandchildren, Nathan (Bailey) Erickson of Grand Forks, ND, Audrey (Winward Jr.) Norberg of St. Cloud, Jacob and Nicholas Trosdahl both of Battle Lake; one great-grandson, Winward John III; and by numerous relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on January 17, 2004; daughter, Lora Marie Erickson on February 11, 1997; and by his parents, Loren and Flora Erickson.
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Henning.
