Kenneth Erwin Neumann, 94, of Fergus Falls, passed away January 8, 2014 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
His loving wife of 60 years, Amy Evelyn (Roberts) Neumann, 83, passed away December 3, 2003 in Penfield, NY where they were both living at the time.
Amy was born July 15, 1920 in Lachine (Montreal), Quebec, Canada, the only child of Arthur and Eva (Williams) Roberts, English citizens. The family moved back to England in 1930.
Kenneth was born October 25, 1919 in Roseau, MN, the elder of three sons of the late Erwin Fred and Emma Lena (Mittelstadt) Neumann. Ken graduated as valedictorian from Breckenridge, MN High School, attended Luther College in Decorah, IA for two years (1937-39), graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND (1939-41) and went on to do post graduate studies at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA (1941-42) until being drafted during WWII into the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, MN on 6 Apr 1942. He completed basic training at Fort Warren, WY and departed for the European Theater of Operations on 1 Jul 1942 arriving in Liverpool, England on 13 Jul 1942. On 18 Feb 1943 he received an overseas commission to the rank of Captain from Tech Sergeant 5 and was transferred to Glasgow, Scotland.
Ken and Amy were married on 26 Jun 1943 in Southport, Lancashire, England. They were stationed in Glasgow, Scotland and then transferred on 11 Sep 1944 to London, England weathering the V-2 rocket attacks on London. Ken was assigned logistics duties at General Eisenhower's Allied Headquarters in London.
Ken returned to the U.S. on 14 Dec 1945 , finding initial civilian employment in Fargo, ND and was discharged from the U.S. Army at Fort McCoy, WI on 26 Feb 1946.
Amy arrived in the U.S. on March 2, 1946 having travelled across the Atlantic Ocean from England to New York City on the ocean liner SS Washington with 2, 500 other war brides. Amy then traveled by train to Breckenridge to be reunited with Ken and residing in Fargo.
They moved to Fergus Falls in June 1946 with Ken joining a local accounting firm and shortly thereafter becoming a partner in that firm, Hanson & Neumann, for 34 years until his retirement in January 1980. During his business career, he was active in various professional organizations, and served as am member and officer of several professional and community organization, President of the Minnesota Association of Public Accountants, Winter Wonderland Chairman, VFW, American Legion, Rotary, Elks.
Ken remained in the U.S. Army Reserves for 24 years attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Commander of the 1st Battalion, 409th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division headquartered in Fergus Falls with subordinate companies in Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes, Morris, Walker and Elbow Lake. He retired from the U.S. Army on October 25, 1979.
From 1980 until they moved to Fargo, ND in July 1989 they spent time in their large rose and vegetable garden, golfing, dancing and traveling to New York City, England, France and Germany. From 1994 through 2003 they lived in Pittsford, NY, Gurnee, IL, Scottsdale, AZ and Penfield, NY. After Amy's passing Ken moved back to Fergus Falls.
Surviving are two sons, Robert of Hickory, NC and Michael (Debbie) Neumann of Scottsdale, AZ; two grandchildren, Allison and Trevor (Jessica) Neumann, nephew, Paul (Suzy) Neumann, niece Lisa
(Neumann) Simmons and cousins Jean Blondeau and Marcia (Gerry) Kraut.
In addition to their parents, preceding them in passing are Ken's brothers Robert Earl Neumann and Rodger Arthur Neumann and niece Jean Marie Neumann

A Celebration Of Their Lives Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, 301 East Washington Ave, Fergus Falls. MN.
Bob and Mike will be at the Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m for anyone wishing to come.
Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens at approximately 3:30 pm.
