Kenneth A. Richter, age 83, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Fergus Falls Veterans Home.

Kenneth A. Richter was born May 8, 1928 to Otto H. and Clara (Haarstick) Richter in Fergus Falls. He worked as a farm hand prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War on January 17, 1951 and was honorably discharged on October 20, 1952.

Kenneth married Dorothy Josephine Peterson on November 7, 1953 in Webster, South Dakota. They made their home in Fergus Falls.

After the Army, he went on to become an electrician and trained under the G.I. Bill. Kenneth worked for Edling Electric and later Mollerud Electric. Further in his career, he worked as a construction electrician until he retired at the age of 62. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Kenneth lived at Mill Street Residence for 3 years. In February 2006, he became a resident of Fergus Falls Veterans Home. Kenneth was known there as the "Candy Man" due to his love for candy. He remained there until his death.

Kenneth was a life member of the VFW Post 612, and also a former member of the VFW Color Guard. His hobbies included: woodworking, being a handyman, and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed going out for breakfast, and getting ice cream with his family.

Kenneth is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Jon, Sr.) Nygaard of Fergus Falls and Melinda (Ronald A.) Erickson of Fergus Falls; son, Steven (Bonnie) Richter of St. Cloud; step-children, Dianne Jorgenson of Fergus Falls and David Peterson; grandchildren, Jamie Johnson, Amy Erickson, Kent Jorgenson, Mark Jorgenson, Wayne Richter, Julie Richter and Lisa Richter; sister, Laverne Severson of the Twin Cities and brother Marvin (Dorothy) Richter of International Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy on March 1, 1993; and brother, Selvin Richter.

Private Family services were held.
