Kimberly Ostlund, 48, of Evansville, died Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at her home, under the care of her family and Douglas County Hospice.
Kimberly Ann (Bukkila) Ostlund was born on May 18, 1967 in Alexandria, the daughter of Roger and Diane (Bishop) Bukkila. She attended school in Evansville, graduating from Evansville High School in 1985. She went on to attend Alexandria Technical College, receiving an associate's degree in accounting.
Following school, Kim worked for Alexandria Title Company. For the majority of her career, she worked at the Douglas County Assessors Office, a job she truly loved. Outside of her job at the courthouse, Kim took an active role in the family's farming operation. Much of her time was also spent doing lawn care and keeping the farm immaculate.
Kim loved gardening, cross-stitching, jigsaw puzzles, and adored her farm animals. Gardening to her was especially fulfilling – from growing and harvesting the garden, to canning, she will be remembered especially for her raspberry and strawberry jelly, an item she frequently gave out during the holidays.
She enjoyed traveling, going to Germany with her mother; and traveled to Nashville and Cozumel with Duane. Kim's favorite trip was the annual late-model dirt track racing trip her and Duane took with many of their closest friends to Cedar Lake, Wisconsin every year.
Most important to Kim was her family, especially her four granddaughters.
Kim is survived by her husband, Duane of Evansville; son, Travis Olson of Evansville; four step-children, Leslie (Scott) Blue of Ham Lake, MN, Clay (Kristin) Ostlund of Alexandria, Aaron (special friend Rachel) Ostlund of Fargo, and Lauren (special friend Ashton) Ostlund of Fridley; four granddaughters, Samantha, Audrey, Brooklyn, and Madelyn; brother, Keith (Kelly) Bukkila of Evansville; parents, Roger (Diane) Bukkila of Evansville; mother-in-law, JoAnne Ostlund of Evansville; aunts and uncles, Evonne (David) Herbig of Barnesville, Iva Bukkila, Riner, VA and Donald (Barb) Bukkila of Alexandria; special niece, Emily Bukkila; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her grandparents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Ostlund and uncle Dale Bukkila.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Douglas County Hospice or the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research.
