Levern W. "Benny" Benson, 78, of Fergus Falls formerly of Ashby, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls.
Levern W. Benson was born August 12, 1933 to Belvin and Christine (Salvavold) Benson in Grant County, MN. Levern was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby. He was active in basketball, football and 4H at Ashby High School. After graduation, Levern enlisted in the US Army Airborne Division, where he served for several years.
After returning from the military, Levern became a talented cook, working in many restaurants in the Twin Cities. He enjoyed duck hunting and fishing, a passion he was able to share with his father, brothers, and son. Levern also enjoyed watching "westerns" on television.
Levern was very generous and kind hearted. For the past nine years, Levern made his home at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Levern is survived by his son, Paul of Jamestown, ND; three brothers, Joel (Margret) of Minneapolis, MN; Arlen (Ruth) of Ashby; Gene (Pam) of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Cory, Jessica and Robert "Bobby" Benson; many nieces and nephews.
Levern is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Elaine Killen.
