LeWayne Herness

LeWayne Gerald Herness was born on July 30, 1939. The son of Lester and Gladys (Salvevold) Herness. LeWayne attended Ashby schools and graduated in 1957. LeWayne passed away on January 24, 2025, at Astera Health in Wadena at the age of 85. 

Lewayne and Betty (Palm) were married on January 9, 1960, they were married until her passing in 1990. They lived in the Ashby area where they raised their two daughters, LeAnn and Lori. LeWayne was employed by Marks Sand & Gravel of Fergus Falls for 35 plus years. For several years after retirement, he worked for Eagle Lake Township. LeWayne enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially driving heavy construction equipment. LeWayne loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LeWayne and LaVaye (Maudal) were married on November 29, 1997 until her passing on October 8, 2023. They lived in Ashby, Henning and the Battle Lake area. 

LeWayne is survived by his 2 daughters, LeAnn Walters, Lori (Jon) Davis; grandchildren, Shaina (Lincoln) Hofmeister, Jordan Walters, Josh (Cailyn) Walters; Drew Davis, and Sareyna (Clayton) Mikleson; great-grandchildren, Kingston and Jagger Hofmeister; stepchildren, Shari (Dave) Laven, Jeffrey (Karen) Maudal, Kevin (Amy) Maudal, Brenda (Phil) Frederick and Tammy (Chris) Cichy; step-grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Laven, Matthew (Charnell) Laven, Andrew Maudal, Sarah (Dustin) Sauter, Michael (Rachel) Maudal, Emma Maudal, Morgan (Nate) Gesme, Jordan Frederick, Savanna (Zack) Anderson, Madison (Cole) Dorow, Macie Cichy, and Mitchell Cichy; 16 step-greatgrandchildren, Toby, Lucy, Hadley, Molly, Boedy, and Ruthy Laven; Charlotte, Shae, and Brooks Laven, Nora, Wesley, and Greta Sauter, Sage Maudal, Isla and Oslo Gesme; Paisley Anderson and brother, Forrest Herness. 

LeWayne was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty (Palm), second, wife, LaVaye (Maudal), his brother Orris and sister, Barbara Barry. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church of Battle Lake, 98 Hidden Meadows Drive, Battle Lake, MN 56515, with a visitation prior. Reception will follow the memorial service. LeWayne will then be placed at Pelican Lake Cemetery in Ashby, MN.
