Lief Sunwall

Lief Sunwall, age 89, formerly of Froid, MT, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Broen Memorial Home at Fergus Falls, MN.

Lief Sunwall was born at the family farm in Froid , Montana on June 30 ^th , 1921 to Anders and Margarethe (Grande Snartum) Sunwall.

He graduated from Froid High School in 1940 and served in the army from September 1942 through March 1946. During this time he served as a medic in France during WWII.

Lief bought the family farm in 1947 and farmed for 50 years.

He and his wife Frances (Haverly) were married on October 1 ^st , 1949, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Fergus Falls , Minnesota .

He served on the Froid School board and Farmers Elevator of Homestead. He enjoyed hunting, Glacier Park , traveling and playing horseshoes.

Lief was involved in the Froid Mission Chapel, was an elder at Bethel Free Lutheran in Culbertson , Montana and in his later years attended Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Fergus Falls , Minnesota .

Lief was a man of faith who loved to read and study the Bible. He was a man of prayer, who put his relationship with his Lord and Savior first.

Lief dearly loved Frances, their four kids and the rest of his family. He enjoyed spending time with people and was interested in their lives. He was a good listener and encourager. Along with Frances , they were known for their generous and gracious hospitality, inviting many to their home for coffee, Bible study, a meal or overnight stay.

Lief is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Dennis (Cyndi) of Baldwin Place, New York, Greg (Julie) of Froid, Montana, Dwight (Lana) of Castle Rock, Colorado; daughter, Barb (Bob) Anderson of Roseau, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jason (Danielle), Aaron and Tami Sunwall, Summer (Josh) Martins, Eric and Kari Sunwall, Leigh Sunwall, Emily (Travis) VanDoren, Anna (Mark) Bjornrud, Katie Anderson; great-grandchildren, Brian Sunwall, Damien Martins, Lars and Liv VanDoren, Evelyn and Anderson Bjornrud; sisters, Elvina and Milly Sunwall of Billings, Montana and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nils, Philip, Caleb, Aril and Sam; sisters, Alma Thompson, Thelma Erickson, Miriam Erickson and Ruth Sunwall.
