Linda Estes, 67 of rural Battle Lake died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her children.
Linda Louise Estes was born on December 11, 1945 in Sonoma, California the daughter of Ned and Theodora (Kimber) Harmon. In the spring of 1946 they returned to Minnesota, moved to Iowa then lived a short time in Renton, Washington before returning to Minnesota in 1956. Linda attended country school in Girard Township, then graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1963.
She married Larry Estes the love of her life on September 28, 1963 in the First Baptist Church in Henning, having to fit the wedding between silo-filling and opening duck hunting. She was a homemaker along with being a partner with Larry on the family farm, and in 1972 they moved to their farm on Lake Ethel. As the children got older she started working at the Henning Bakery. Linda and Larry raised Black Angus cattle, chickens, hogs, sheep and grain farmed. She cut a lot of hay, disked the fields and enjoyed her D-17 Allis Chalmers tractor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Her life was a witness to her Christian faith. Linda's children were her greatest delight she worked hard and devoted her life to giving them a good home. Linda appreciated the simple pleasures in life.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; two daughters, Bonnie (Michael) Van Heel of Sartell and Brenda (Christopher) Estes-Schmid of Fargo; one son, Brent Estes of Battle Lake; four grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Michala and Hannah; mother, Theodora Harmon of Henning; brother, Larry (Connie) Harmon of Tucson, AZ.; and by numerous relatives and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Ned Harmon.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Henning
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
