Linnea Dahlen, 96 of Evansville died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since 1999.
Linnea Josephine Dahlen was born on July 13, 1914 in Lund Township the daughter of Olaf and Marie (Larson) Olson. Linnea was raised in Lund Township, baptized and confirmed in the Christina Lake Lutheran Church and attended the Kron School. On September 30, 1931 Linnea and George H. Dahlen were married at Elbow Lake, MN. The couple farmed in Grant and Douglas Counties, until the death of George in 1957. Over the years Linnea lived in Fargo, ND, Elbow Lake and Evansville, MN. Throughout those years she remained a very strong and independent woman. She worked at the Ashby Nursing Home before moving to Fargo and working at St. Luke's Hospital. She later moved to Elbow Lake and worked at Grant County Hospital as a Physical Therapy Aide until the time of her retirement in 1986. During her years at the Grant County Hospital she worked with many high school students interested in health careers. She found great enjoyment interacting with those students.
Linnea enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She liked to travel and went on many trips throughout the Midwest with her friends. Her ultimate trip was to Sweden at age 75 to visit her father's homeland. It was a tremendous experience for her. She was active in community activities, church, singing with the Senior Notes, baking and making afghans for her grandchildren. She was also quite the avid golfer. Many of her children called her "Grandma D" and certainly enjoyed spending time with her. Linnea led a very active life, accomplished much, rose to many challenges before succumbing ultimately to Alzheimer 's disease.
Linnea is survived by her son, Larry (Dianne) Dahlen of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughters, Beverly (Don) Copher of Hastings, MN. and Diane Alstead of Evansville; daughters-in-law, Margaret Ann Dahlen of Evansville and Corinne Dahlen of Ashby; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sons, Dennis and Glen; brothers, Edwin, Ernest and Walter Olson; sisters, Ethel Olson and Stella Jones and great-grandson, Jessie Griep.
Funeral Service: 2 pm, Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Christina Lake Lutheran Church, rural Evansville
Visitation: Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service
