Lloyd Ivan Carter passed away at the age of 86 on March 5, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND from complications with his heart. He was born to Blaine and Ruth (Davison) Carter on Oct. 18, 1929 at Tintah, MN where he lived on the family farm. He was raised with one sister, Ada. He was confirmed in the Tintah Congregational Church.
Lloyd went to school and graduated from Tintah High School in 1947. He attended college at NDSU in Fargo for Architectural Drafting until he quit school to come back home and work on the family farm. He married Grace Bullis on January 18th, 1952. They lived and raised five kids on the family farm in Tintah until 1983 when they moved to Battle Lake, MN. He continued to farm until Aug. 2014 when Pneumonia forced him to move to the Good Samaritan nursing home in Battle Lake.
Over the years Lloyd enjoyed raising dairy cattle and sheep then switched to beef cattle in his later years and with his granddaughter Brianna's request while smiling and twisting his finger he agreed to have goats on the farm. He instilled a huge love of the land in his kids and grandkids and thoroughly enjoyed watching all of them work with and show their animals in 4-H at the county fair. It was the highlight of his summer to sit and watch their hard work in the stands at the shows. Lloyd was a huge fan of 4-H and he supported all of his kids and grandkids in their 4-H careers.
To support his farming habit Lloyd drove school bus for 52 years between Campbell-Tintah and Battle Lake. He enjoyed most of the kids he had on his routes and made many great memories over the years. After retiring from bus driving he found more time for following the Battlers and the Bulldogs sports teams and travelled to many sporting events as he supported the teams all his life. He continued to follow the teams right up to his passing. He especially enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids in their sporting efforts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Blaine Carter, sister and brother-in-law, Ada and Harvey Lindsay and one son, Daryl Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, children Earl (Jill) Carter of Wendell, JoLynn (Dennis) Howard of Pine City, Dale (Nada) Carter of Starbuck, Janelle (Rich) Hawkinson of Battle Lake and a daughter-in-law, Joni Carter of Battle Lake, 16 Grandsons and 4 Granddaughters and 20 Great-grandkids.
