Lowell "Pops" Bjorgaard, 80 of rural Battle Lake died Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls.
Lowell Melvin Bjorgaard was born on May 3, 1935, at home at rural Battle Lake, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Dorothy (Malcolm) Bjorgaard. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church of Amor. Lowell attended Rural School District # 105 and then the Battle Lake High School. As a young man he worked for area farmers before enlisting into the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving three years and was then discharged as a Sergeant.
Lowell and Lois Marie Heald were married on December 21, 1970, in Sisseton, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived on their farm in Maine Township where they dairy and grain farmed. In 1998, they sold the dairy cows and then Lowell was employed with Delzer-Evavold Construction. He also worked some for Barry Construction, Earl Strande Construction and Botner Construction. He was a blade operator for Amor Township and enjoyed operating any piece of equipment. Lowell was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed fishing trips to the Lake of the Woods, and loved his time at the family cabin on Dead Lake. He was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church, had served on the church council and also had served eighteen years on the Maine Township Board.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, Lowell Bjorgaard Jr. of Battle Lake and Shannon (Lynette) Bjorgaard of Dent; three grandchildren, Tara and Alyssa Johnson and Blake Hanson-Bjorgaard; one brother, Robert (Karen) Bjorgaard of Battle Lake; one sister, Janis Erlandson of Fergus Falls; and many relatives and friends. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Dorothy Bjorgaard; infant daughter, Angel Bjorgaard and by brother-in-law, Merle Erlandson.
Memorial Service: 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
Visitation: Monday from 4 to 7 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
