Lynn R. Thompson, 75, of Brandon, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Bethany Community in Alexandria.
Lynn Russell Thompson was born on May 16, 1941 at home in St. Olaf Township near Dalton, Minnesota the son of Maurice and Irene (Risbrudt) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethel Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake. He attended Rural School District #6 in Eagle Lake Township then graduated from Ashby High School in 1959.
Lynn married Lavonne Olson in 1963 and to this union four children were born, Luke, Duane, Vicki and Lana. On January 4, 1991 Lynn and Renee (Bouressa) Blascyk were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon, Minnesota.
He was employed with Hall's Hardware in Battle Lake, then with Otter Tail Power Co., working thirty-four years, retiring as a Service Representative in the Brandon area. Many of his customers became his friends. He loved farming, drove tractor for Paul Lauthen and fed elk at Glen Zebarth's farm after retirement. Lynn enjoyed baseball and played for various teams. His other hobbies were golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing, especially to Lake of the Woods with Renee and his annual trips to Canada with his friends. No one was a stranger to Lynn—he could make conversation with anyone. He loved going to the cafe to play dice and have coffee with his friends. Lynn and Renee loved to go to old-time dances all over the state and especially enjoyed dancing the polka. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, had served many years on the Brandon City Council, Fire Department, served as fire chief, Lions Club and Brandon Sportsmans Club, where he taught gun safety.
He is survived by his wife, Renee; four children, Luke (Deb) Thompson of St. Michael, Duane Thompson of Houston, Texas, Vicki (Kyle) Johnson of Jordan and Lana Suchy of Brandon; three step-children, Jason Blascyk of Kensington, Erin (Steve) Depew of New Ulm and Stephanie (Jeremy) Wagner of Garfield; fifteen grandchildren, Lexi (David) Hines, Coley (Ryan) Wagner and Bailey Thompson, Paiton, Paige and Makenna Johnson, Chandler, London and Taylor Suchy, Brendan, Colton, Doranna and Tayten Blascyk, Mackenzie and Landon Depew; one brother, Larry Thompson of Missoula, Montana; and by numerous relatives and friends.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Irene Thompson and by one brother, Merlyn Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
