Margarete Hustad

Margarete Hustad, 90, of Battle Lake, MN, died on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Home.

Margarete was born on September 13, 1933, in Fergus Falls, MN, Margarete was the beloved daughter of Carl and Tillie (Anderson) Grewe.  She was baptized in Fergus Falls and confirmed at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in rural Battle Lake. Margarete graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1951. She brought joy and love to the lives of all who knew her.

Margarete and Arvid Hustad celebrated their marriage on March 31, 1957, at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church. Margarete dedicated her life to her family as a loving and devoted mother. She tirelessly worked to raise her children, supporting her husband Arvid in their shared journey.

Margarete will forever be remembered for her culinary and baking skills, avid gardening, and her famous homemade bread and caramel rolls. She found immense joy in spending time with her cherished grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.

An active member of Trefoldighed Lutheran Church, Margarete served on the church council, participated in the choir, and was an active member of the ladies’ aide. She also dedicated her time as a Sunday school teacher, sharing her faith and values with the younger generation. Her passion for music continued throughout her life singing as a soloist, in duets, in trios and in choir.  She even helped lead the music while she was a resident at the Good Sam.  She served as secretary of the District 1383 School Board.  She will forever be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and faithful individual.

Margarete is survived by her four children, Arlyn (Gail) Hustad of Battle Lake, Deb (Neil) Rongstad of Bemidji, MN, Mike (Lisa) Hustad of Barnesville, MN, and Gail (Gerrad) Ralston of Battle Lake. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Stacey (Brandon), Karlie (Jake), James (Erin), Andy (Sarah), Julie (Paul), Nicole (Parker), Chandra, Amanda, Grant, and Rachel, as well as her thirteen great-grandchildren. Margarete is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Tillie, her loving husband, Arvid Hustad, and her siblings, Richard, Kenwood, James, Audrey, and Doris.

In this time of grief, let us remember Margarete for her unwavering love, indomitable spirit, and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory forever be a blessing to us all.

Visitation: Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5-7 P.M., with a 6:30 Prayer Service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake.

Interment: Trefoldighed Lutheran Cemetery, rural Battle Lake, MN.

Funeral arrangements are with the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake.
