Marguerite Davis

Marguerite Davis, 96, of Battle Lake, passed away July 19, 2013, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Society, Battle Lake, Minnesota.

Marguerite Marie Davis was born February 12, 1917, in Sullivan, Illinois to Harry William and Anna Amanda Marie (Beitz) Fulk. She graduated from Sullivan high school in 1935 and then Business College in Decatur, Illinois. She worked as receptionist in a Decatur physicians' office until retirement.

Marguerite married Roy Shay on December 16, 1940 in Decatur, IL and they were married for 27 years until his death in 1967. She married Jack F. Davis on June 28, 1976 and they made their summer home in Battle Lake and spent winters in Nokomis, Florida. In 1997, after 21 years of marriage Jack died and within a few years Marguerite decided to make Battle Lake her home full time. She was one of the first residents to move into the new Lakeview Senior Living Apartments and was involved in many aspects of life in that active community. In 2008 she was honored as Volunteer of the Year at Lakeside. Marguerite will be remembered for her sunny smile, her positive, optimistic outlook, her generous and giving nature and as a kind and caring person.

She loved travel and she and Jack covered many miles of America's backroads. She was an enthusiastic participant in canoe trips and fishing escapades. She enjoyed handcrafts, reading, baking, golf, crossword puzzles and cards. Marguerite always tried to stay very active.

She was preceded in death by husbands Roy Shay and Jack Davis; her parents, Harry and Anna Fulk; her brother Wayne Fulk; and her step-daughter-in-law Linda (Bradley) Davis.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Todd M. Davis of Spencerville, IN and Beth A. (William) Reid of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Julia (Greg) Patterson of Colorado Springs, CO, Jason (Lisa) Reid of Penrose, CO, and Jennifer (Brandon) Poole of Havelock, NC; 6 great-grandchildren, Katherine and Jack Patterson, Bailey and Cailan Reid, and Caycee and Mackenzie Poole; cousin, Peg (Dean) Dawson of Lovington, Il; nephew Jim (Bonnie) Nickel of Venice, FL and niece Cossette Fulk of Champaign, Il.

There will be cremation and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Battle Lake Good Samaritan.
