Marian Elizabeth Thompson

August 9, 1926 — June 17, 2024

Fergus Falls

Marian Elizabeth (Miller) Thompson, age 97, died on June 17, 2024, at Broen Home with family by her side. She was under the loving care of Moments Hospice. Mom died just as she lived life, gently and peacefully. Mom was born to Carl R. and Mary (Donahue) Miller on August 9, 1926, at the McVille, ND hospital. She graduated as the Salutatorian of her class from Binford High School, Binford, ND in 1944. Following graduation, she attended Valley City State Teachers College and taught school in Romness Township near Cooperstown, ND for one year. On May 26, 1945, she married Trygve Thompson. They farmed near Cooperstown until 1986. She was a loving mother to five daughters. Being the amazing seamstress she was, she was honored to have sewn all her daughters’ wedding dresses. Mom was very proud of her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid flower gardener. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries of her immediate and extended families by sending cards until the age of 97. While residing on the farm, Mom found much joy teaching young children in Sunday School and Good News Club. She was active in the Gideon’s Auxiliary and Farm Bureau. She served as secretary and custodian for Zion Lutheran Church for ten years, where she was a member. Mom and Dad retired in 1986 and moved to Fergus Falls, MN in 1994 to be closer to family. Upon moving, she enjoyed being a part of the Bethel Lutheran Prime Timers. Dad died April 1, 2003. In August of 2017, Mom moved to Broen Home in Fergus Falls. She enjoyed taking part in the many activities provided there and always felt loved and well cared for by the staff at Broen.

Mom was preceded in death by dad; her parents; her sister Delores Ann and her husband Walter Boe; her brother Robert and his wife Jean; and her brother-in-law Robert Stahl.

Mom is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters: Cheryl (Jim) Wold, Berny Anderson, Bonnie (Dan) Wallin, Charlene (Jerry) Christenson, and LaVon (John) Kube; grandchildren: Maralee (Wold) and Eric Nelson; Treston and Ally Wold; Stephanie Flatla and Sean Ogle; Tausha Flatla; Christopher Wallin; Jeremiah and Lisa Christenson; Ana (Christenson) and Matthew Jensen; Joshua and Erica Kube; Alexander Kube; 13 great grandchildren; siblings: Florence Stahl; Shirley (Roger) Adrian; Duane (Gayle) Miller; Darvin (Karen) Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 477, Cooperstown, ND 58425 or Moments Hospice, 507 N Nokomis St, Alexandria, MN 56308.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday August 24, 2024, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. The visitation is 10:00am-11:00am. The funeral will start at 11:00am with a lunch to follow.
