Marie Melrose, 103 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center, under the loving care of family and staff.
Marie Margaret Melrose was born on January 24, 1908 in Lincoln County, rural Canby, Minnesota. She one of eleven children born to Christian and Ellen (Christiansen) Stefferud. She attended Country School through the eighth grade.
Marie and Lester Melrose were married on August 8, 1931. They were married fifty-three years and had three children. Marie and Lester spent their working lives farming in Lincoln County. She was a hard working farmers wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Marie enjoyed bowling, gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting and was known for her lefse making and caramel rolls. She was a lifelong member of the Marble Lutheran Church, rural Canby being active with the Ladies Aide, Circle, and always ready to help in numerous church activities. Marie was active until her last week with us. Walking the halls of the Good Samaritan, dancing to the dining room music with her walker, greeting all she met and winning a game of Rummy whenever someone had time to play.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings. Marie is survived by her three children, Marless Gomez of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Darel (Mary) Melrose of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Laura (Darwin) Hillman of Battle Lake, Minnesota and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, April 30, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service

Interment: Marble Cemetery, rural Canby, Minnesota
