Martha “Mickey” Hanson, 91 of rural Battle Lake died Monday, November 27, 2017, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Martha Jean Hanson was born on July 9, 1926, in rural Stratford, Iowa, the daughter of F. James Merlin and M. Elsie Caroline (Gabrielson) Neese. She was baptized at the Methodist Church and attended rural grade schools. She then attended Boone High School finishing the 11th grade.
On December 24, 1944, she married Willis “Bill” Hanson at the First English Lutheran Church of Webster City, Iowa. The couple resided in Webster City, Iowa, where Mickey worked at Zolnosky Jewelry Store as a clerk and at the Fastenow Drug Store lunch counter. They moved to Minnesota and resided in Everts Township, also Milton, North Dakota, Kettle Falls, Washington and Battle Lake. They operated Hanson’s Beauty Beach on Deer Lake for two years. Mickey worked in sales for Avon and Home Interiors. They moved to their current home on Deer Lake in 1994.
She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Amor where she served as Youth Director Counselor, Sunday School Teacher as well as on the Ladies Aid Circle. She was previously a member of the Art of the Lakes in Battle Lake and an Auxiliary Member in Milton, North Dakota. She is currently a member of the Battle Lake Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for the Battle Lake Food Shelf for many years. Mickey had been a caretaker for Faith Haven Camp for two years.
Her hobbies included curling, roller skating, bowling, quilting and especially enjoyed her family and friends.
Mickey is survived by one son, Joel (Jackie Leverentz)Hanson of rural Battle Lake; daughter-in-law, Helen (Jim) Hanson of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Jenna Hanson, Kala (Dave) Mills, Rebecca (Eric) Romero, Randy (Sophia) Hanson, Anita (Joe) Lucero, Todd (Natalie) Hanson and Canndi (Bryan) Vieths; 21 great- grandchildren, Anthony (Stacia), Alex, Andrew, Aden, Abram, Alyviah, Chance, Paige, Caden, Lily, Madison, Dakota, Mariah, Alexia, Joe, Bailey, Jameson, Nora, Jack, Hannah and Chelsea; a great granddaughter, Isabella; a brother, Jack (Shirley) Neese of Battle Lake, sister, Robyn (Tim) Reece of Boone, IA along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on December 4, 2015; two sons, Jim and Ricky Hanson and one brother, Larry Neese.
Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 1, 2017, Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, rural Battle Lake
Visitation: Thursday, from 4-6 P.M., at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church.
