Marvin L. Hodnefield, 98, Fergus Falls, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Broen Home, Fergus Falls, Minnesota
Marvin was born September 30, 1915 in Murray County, Slayton, Minnesota. He was one of nine children born to Jacob and Sigrid (Brevig) Hodnefield. He was baptized on September 8, 1920 and later confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. The family moved to a farm in Buse Township, south of Fergus Falls, later relocating to Battle Lake where he finished school. On June 17, 1939, he was united in marriage to Stella Lundberg. They purchased a farm in Eagle Lake Township, residing there 28 years. Marvin worked for the Battle Lake Telephone Company, held the position of Board Clerk for District #72, and served several terms on the Board of Trustees for Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing carpentry work. He retired from the Fergus Falls Public School System in 1980. After retirement, he became a member of the Senior Citizen Program, serving on the Advisory Board and doing volunteer work.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Stella; brothers, Elof, John and Olaf; sisters, Jennie Parson, Emma Markle, Sigrid Puetz and Gunnie Applequist; and son-in-law, Gerald Germolus.
Survivors include his daughters, Sharon (Louis) Fernbaugh, Oklahoma City, OK; Wanda (David) Gray, Fargo, ND; and Katherine (Jim) Germolus, Wichita, KS; three grandchildren, Tracy (William) Stallbaumer; Garrick Fernbaugh, and Nicolle (Ken) Kovacs; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth (Ralph) Bergland; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the American Heart or American Lung Association.
Funeral Service: 1 PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014, Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
