Marvin "Jake" Jacobs, 84 of rural Henning died Friday, March 22, 2013 in his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
Marvin Carl Jacobs was born on June 20, 1928 by Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of Oliver and Hilda (Schroeder) Jacobs. He was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and attended Country School District #247 in Aurdal Township, rural Fergus Falls. Marvin served for two years with the U.S. Army in Alaska.
Marvin and Betty Jane Means were married on June 9, 1956 in Spokane, Washington. After their marriage they dairy farmed in Aurdal Township on the home farm where Marvin was born. In 1967 they moved to their farm in Sverdrup Township while by Underwood Jake worked for Pal-O-Pak Insulation Co., and in 1982 they moved to a dairy farm by Perham. In 1987, Marvin and Betty retired from dairy farming when they moved to their home by Henning. He was employed with the Perham Sale Barn, and also working with Greenview doing maintenance for rest areas retiring in 2007. Marvin enjoyed ice fishing, farming, working outdoors with his cattle, draft horses and also had a big interest in old tractors. He had served as an Elder for the Aurdal Lutheran Church had been a member of the West Central Minnesota Draft Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; four children, Kenneth (Peggy) Jacobs of Wadena, Paul (Kathy) Jacobs of Ashby, Corrina (Bruce) Grage of Fergus Falls and Tim (Sue) Jacobs of Bluegrass; twelve grandchildren and families, Chris (Shelly) Jacobs, Shyanne, Cody and Caleb, Joel (Jennifer) Jacobs, Tristan, Colton, Grace and Annabell, Cassi (Brandon) Benson and Emma, Kelly (Ray) Besco, Heather (Corey) Synstelien, Dylan, Kyndra and Taylor, Melissa, Zachary, Nicholas, Isaac and Ryan Jacobs, Jessica (Tony) Olson, Brody and Madisyn and Katie Jacobs; and by numerous relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Hilda Jacobs; grandson, Michael Jacobs; brother, Edward Jacobs and by his sister, Eleanore Wells.
Funeral Services: 2:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
Visitation: Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home and Thursday morning prior to the service.
