MaryAnn Elaine Quernemoen, 89, of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Care Center on November 16, 2017, where she resided for three and a half years.
She was born on September 7, 1928 in Oslo, Minnesota to Sigward and Ada Nelson. MaryAnn was born at the country farm house and in her early childhood attended school in a one room schoolhouse. She graduated in 1945 from Oslo High School. Her first job was a teller at Warren State Bank in Warren, Minnesota. She began writing to a serviceman, LeRoy Quernemoen, who she was introduced to by her brother, Irving Nelson. They wrote back and forth for 18 months. When LeRoy was discharged from the service in November 1946, they met for the first time and were engaged two weeks later. The couple was married July 20, 1947 in Oslo, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past summer.
They started their married life together in Fergus Falls, where MaryAnn began as a teller at Fergus Falls National Bank. She continued as a teller until their first son Bruce was born, where she then took over the office duties for LeRoy’s home delivery milk business for over 40 years.
MaryAnn joined First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls in 1948. She had a servant’s heart, and it showed through the hospitality she displayed to countless families throughout the years. She was involved in a homemaker’s club with nine other ladies for over 40 years.
MaryAnn is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Fergus Falls; six children: Bruce (Lynn) Quernemoen of McKinney, TX, Nancy Wagner of Fargo, ND, Diane (Merrill) Holmquist of Moorhead, MN, Brian (Lisa) Quernemoen of Fergus Falls, Marilee (Randy) Johnson of Fargo, ND, and Barry (Gretchyn) Quernemoen of Becker, MN; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, for a total of 58 family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossroads Church or Pioneer Care Center. Thank you to the staff and nurses at Pioneer Care and Hospice for their loving care.
