Michael Malecki, 48, of Battle Lake died Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Minneapolis.
Michael Andrew Malecki was born on July 30, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Chester and Arlene (Moen) Malecki. He was baptized in the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Chicago and confirmed in Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Battle Lake. Mike attended Goethe Public School then St. John Birchman Catholic School, both in Chicago. At the age of eleven he moved with his family to Battle Lake where he graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1981. He then continued his education for one year at the University of Minnesota in Morris. In September of 1982 he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving as a Communications-Computer Systems Specialist. Mike served two years overseas in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and in November of 1991 he was honorably discharged with nine years, eight months of service.
Mike worked for Qwest in New Mexico before returning to Minnesota and at the time of his death was employed as Sales Manager for Battle Lake Boat Works. He was an avid sports fan who really enjoyed the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. Mike also liked summer and winter fishing, golfing and movies. Mike had a contagious smile and was well liked by everyone who met him. Mike enjoyed family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his fiancée, Judy Lankow of Battle Lake; parents, Chester and Arlene Malecki of Battle Lake; three children, Bryan (Jillian Donavan) Malecki of Colorado Springs, CO., Gavin (Kelli McDaniel) Malecki of Scottsbluff, NE. and Amberlyne Malecki of Alberquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Addison, Connor and Mason; sister, Michele (Doug) Zweerink, Jordan and Samantha of Green Bay, WI; uncle, Fred (Jackie) Moen of Isanti; and by Judy's son, Casey (Steve Swanson) Lankow of Minneapolis; and by numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chester Sr. and Bernice Malecki and Andy and Irene Moen; and by one uncle, Jack Moen.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Friday, January 27, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
