Mildred Peterson

Mildred A. Peterson, 94, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Rothsay, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls.


Mildred was born January 1, 1916, in Fergus Falls, MN, the daughter of William J. Courtney and Martha Sylvester Courtney. She attended school in Fergus Falls, Wisconsin and St. Louis.


On April 2, 1937, she married Clarence M. Peterson in Milbank, SD. The couple farmed together near Rothsay until his death in 1975. She left the farm and moved into Rothsay in 1976. On May 13, 1994, she married Joe Fillion in Colorado. The couple lived in Rothsay. After his death in 1999, she continued to live in Rothsay until 2007 when she moved to Park Gardens in Fergus Falls. In February, 2010, she moved to Pioneer Home.


Mildred was a faithful member of the Rothsay Baptist Church for most of her life. She had a great sense of humor and a ready smile for everyone she met. She loved quilting, and her family treasures the many beautiful quilts hand-stitched by her and her friends.


She is survived by two sons, Don (Cathy) of Fergus Falls and Roland (Susan) of Eden Prairie, MN. Grandchildren: Scott (Jackie) Peterson of Abercrombie, ND, Jill Duellman (Wes) of Rochester, MN; Jake Peterson (Fiancée Nikki and her daughter Olivia); and Courtney (Matt) Becker. Great-grandchildren: Lily, Zander and Quinn Duellman. Brother: William (Marge) Courtney of Lincoln, NB.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Peterson; her husband, Joe Fillion; brothers, Frank Courtney and Russell Courtney, who died in infancy; and a sister, Viva.
