Myron Berend

Myron "Buzz" Berend, 79, Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2015, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Myron Henry was born on May 1, 1936, in Perham, MN, the son of Charles and Mabel (Voelker) Berend. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Myron grew up in Frazee where he was a very accomplished athlete and graduated from Frazee High School.
On September 6, 1958, he married Barbara Ann Rousu at The Apostolic Church in New York Mills. They were the parents of four children, Brenda, Brian, Becky and Barry.
After their marriage the family moved to Seattle where they lived for 21 years. Myron worked as a self-employed carpenter building custom homes all around the United States such as Seattle, Alaska and Wisconsin. In 1979, they moved back to New York Mills, Minnesota where he and his wife, Barbara owned and operated Mills Café and The Bargain House and also cooked at the VFW in New York Mills.
Myron enjoyed hunting all kinds of game, especially whitetail deer with his grandsons, fishing and his lifelong hobby of collecting coins. He owned race horses in Washington, was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoyed playing cards, watching old movies, and attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel; a son, Barry in 2003; infant sister, Lois; a sister, Florence Dines and a great grandson, Emmett Garcia.
Myron is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 57 years, Barbara Berend of Fergus Falls; three children, Brenda (Jerry) Biegler of Perham, MN, Brian (Sharon) Berend of Auburn, WA and Becky (Doug) Salo of New York Mills, MN; 10 grandchildren, Cody, Brian, Emily, Gavin, RaeAnna, Dillon, Garrett, Nicole, Paige and Brandon; four great grandchildren, Layla, Cade, Ethan and Elizabeth; a sister, Marlene (Robert) Shasky of Detroit Lakes, MN; a daughter-in-law, Rachelle Sikorski of Fairmount, ND;two sister-in-laws, Bea Rogness of Luverne, MN and Alice (Don) Patton of Phoenix, AZ; a brother-in-law, Jerry Dines of Washington along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends
Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 5-8 P.M., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home with a 7:30 prayer service, and resuming one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
