Nick Stans, 64, of rural Underwood died Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Nicholas Ralph Stans was born on December 6, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Jerome and Margaret (Scheffler) Stans. He was raised in the Catholic faith. He graduated from the Jordan High School in 1966. After high school, he farmed by Prior Lake until 1974 when they moved to their present farm in Sverdrup Township, rural Underwood, where he dairy and grain farmed with his brother Gary on the Stans Brothers Farm.
Nick and his fiancée, JoAnn enjoyed garage and auction sales together. Nick was a collector, collecting a variety of miscellaneous treasures. He liked farming, nature and the outdoors. Nick enjoyed his family, all his siblings and especially his nieces and nephews, having good times, swimming, fishing, camping and he was known for his excellent cooking. Nick was very neighborly and appreciated everyone.
He is survived by his fiancée, JoAnn Hesse-Weiers; his siblings: David, Victor (Jeri), Ed (Lois), Sue, Jim (Dianne), Tom, Jerome (Lynn), Margaret, Charles (Rita), Gary, Ruth, Rose (David) and Ron Gangl; and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Margaret; sisters Kathleen Mills and Theresa Gangl; a sister-in-law, Sandy Stans and three brothers-in-law: Fred Mills, Jerry Schanus and Leo Hesse.
Visitation: Monday from 4 to 6 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake and for one hour prior to the service.
Service: Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake
