Norma Helgeson

Norma Helgeson, age 89, of Erhard passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Pelican Rapids Good Samaritan Center surrounded by family and loved ones.

Norma was born November 14, 1920 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Math and Gina (Lyngstad) Mostue. She was baptized in Pelican Rapids, MN and confirmed in 1934 at Tonseth Lutheran Church , rural Erhard where she has also been a member. She grew up in the Erhard area and graduated from School District 187 in 1936.

Norma was united in marriage to Oscar Peasley on November 4, 1939 in Pelican Rapids. Following their marriage they farmed in the Battle Lake and Erhard area. She worked at Runningen Café in Fergus Falls , for 2 years, did house cleaning for a few years, worked at the Turkey Plant in Pelican Rapids and then worked at D.B. Rossenblatt in Fergus Falls , until she retired in 1980. Her loving husband, Oscar passed away February 23, 1977.

On November 23, 1979, she married Clarence Helgeson and they made their home on the farm in Erhard and Fergus Falls . Clarence passed June 19, 1991.

Norma enjoyed her family, going out shopping with her daughters, and going walking every morning with her daughter, Dorene. Norma especially enjoyed her church and church services, reading the Bible every day, and was very proud she had read through the entire Bible 18 times. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, baking, gardening, her flowers and watching TV. For the last four years Norma has been in the loving care of Good Samaritan Society of Pelican Rapids.

She is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Merlin) Bengtson, Dorene (Gene) Milbeck both of Erhard, Ruby (Dave) Gillaspey of Pelican Rapids; two sisters, Nora Kugler of Fergus Falls and Myrtle Gorden of Keewatin; one step son, Carl (Linda) Helgeson of Stockton, IL; one step daughter Mable (Dick) Bowser of Dixson, IL; 15 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents, Math and Gina Mostue, husbands, Oscar Peasley and Clarence Helgeson, four brothers, Phil (Dorothy) Mostue, Gordon Mostue, Calmer Mostue, and Harvey (Adeline) Mostue; sister, Gladys (Bud) Phillips; two brother-in-laws, Harry Kugler and Stanley Gorden; a step daughter, Marlene Eberly; and a step granddaughter Linda Helgeson.
