Norma Lee, 84 of rural Battle Lake died Monday, February 8, 2016, at Perham Living Nursing Home.
Norma Clarice Lee was born on July 22nd, 1931, in Hamburg, Iowa the daughter of Chris and Elma (Gilmore) Spiegel. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hamburg Baptist Church. Norma attended the Belcher Country School through the eighth grade, graduated from Hamburg High School in 1949, and then continued her education for two years at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Norma and her husband Robert Lee were married on December 22nd, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. They were college sweethearts & best friends and recently celebrated 65 years as husband and wife. After their marriage they lived in Bode, Iowa for one year before moving to their farm by Hamburg. Norma & Bob's love for the area formed in the early 1980's when they started vacationing here with their daughters on West Battle Lake. In 1988, they retired from farming to be closer to their family and made Battle Lake, Minnesota their forever home. After moving to Minnesota, Norma worked for the Classic Closet Store in Ottertail City and then More 4 Grocery in Fergus Falls with the floral department. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Vining Lutheran Church. She enjoyed everything about being a homemaker from cooking, crafting to gardening. She loved the company of her pets, both dogs and cats. She had a special fondness for the outdoors and loved bird watching. She relished hearing the sweet song of the cardinal and the call of the loon. Norma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She especially looked forward to the time she could spend with her granddaughters; whether teaching them how to bake, playing cards or having some lake time fun.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Lee; two daughters, Roxanne (Dwight) Swisher of Vining and Rhonda Lee of Rohnert Park, California; three granddaughters, Dawn Swisher of Battle Lake, Lily (Glenn Main) Briese of San Diego, CA. and Joanna Briese of Santa Rosa, CA.; and by numerous relatives and friends.
