Orville Holte

September 13, 1940 — September 17, 2016

Orville S. Holte, 76, of rural Garfield died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Douglas County Hospital.

He was born September 13, 1940 in Fergus Falls, MN to Selmer and Ella (Monson) Holte. He was baptized and confirmed at West Moe Lutheran Church. Orville grew up and attended country school in rural Garfield and then attended school in Alexandria. During and after his schooling, he farmed with his dad. On November 25, 1961, Orville was united in marriage to LuAnne Jacobson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Evansville. The couple made their home on Lake Latoka for a short time before moving to the Garfield area where they farmed. In the mid 1980's, Orville began delivering rural mail along with farming. He retired in November of 2011.

Orville enjoyed fishing with friends and family and was well known for his lying about his fishing spots. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known to be the "biggest kid of the bunch." He also enjoyed restoring old cars and motorcycles, listening to and playing 50's and 60's music, playing cards, rolling dice, tinkering with things and was always ready to help anyone that needed to fix something.

Orville is survived by his wife, LuAnne of rural Garfield; his children: Jeff (Tammie) Holte of rural Garfield and Lori (Daniel) Olson of Evansville; six grandchildren: Ashley (Marshall) Messner, Kristin (Phil) Rosen, Doug (Chelsea) Holte, Eric (Jen) Smith, Heather (Josh) Thoennes and Erica (Ryan) White; 12 great-grandchildren and his sister, Evangeline Richards of Garfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law: Jim Richards and Ed Biederman.
