Rachel Stoner, 102, of Battle Lake, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Rachel Louise Stoner was born October 27, 1911, the daughter of William and Louise (Siefert) Bohn, in Belfield, North Dakota and lived in Sentinel Butte where she graduated from high school in 1930. After working in western North Dakota for a few years she attended nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, graduating in 1944. After graduation she joined the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. in the Nursing Corps and served until the end of WWII.
After the war, Rachel was employed as a nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Harrison in Helena, Montana until 1966. She married Joseph Stoner in Montana and the moved to Grovespring, MO. Joseph Stoner died in a farm accident in 1968 at which time Rachel moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where she worked at St. Mary's Hospital. Upon retirement, she moved to Battle Lake. She was very active serving in the First Baptist Church of Battle Lake where she provided many beautiful flowers from her large garden. Rachel loved gardening and her cats. She has been a resident of Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center since 2003.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Stoner; four sisters, Ella Kelly, Katherine Hagemann, Ruth Henderson and Hilda Falk; and three brothers, Benjamin Bohn, Charles Bohn and Conrad Bohn. She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
