Raymond Schumacher

Raymond Schumacher, 91 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Raymond Fredrick Schumacher was born on May 23, 1925, in McHenry County, Voltaire, North Dakota, the son of Clayton and Viola (Rapp) Schumacher. He graduated from the Breckenridge High School in 1943. Ray served two years with the U.S. Army, during WW II, as a radio repairman in the Philippines and was also stationed in post-war Japan near Osaka. After his discharge in 1946 he attended an appliance school in St. Paul where he learned his primary trade.
Ray and Rosella Odahl were married on January 10, 1948, to this marriage was born one son, Denis. Rosella died on March 22, 1951. Ray and Darlene Hanson were married on October 18, 1953, and they had three sons, Rodger, David and Alan. The family lived in the Battle Lake where Ray built their home on the shore of Battle Lake. He owned and operated Ray's Refrigeration, developed the Battle Lake Trailer Court, owned and operated the Shoreline Cafe for seven years, and built several homes in the area. Ray was an entrepreneur and manufactured Antique Cigar Lighters which sold world-wide and also developed the Cyclone Panfish Scaler. Ray was always creating or fixing something. In 2003, Ray and Darlene moved to North Richland Hills, Texas. Darlene passed away on July 13, 2006, and in 2008, Ray returned to Battle Lake. He enjoyed being busy and taking friends on his Canadian fishing trips.
He is survived by four sons, Denis Schumacher of Boca Raton, Florida, Rodger (Vivian) Schumacher of Arlington, Texas, David (Sandee) Schumacher of Bend, Oregon and Alan (Janis) Schumacher of North Richland Hills, Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Fischer of Sumter, South Carolina; and by numerous relatives and friends.
Ray was also preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Viola Schumacher and by two brothers, Harold and Lyle Schumacher.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 5-7 P.M. with a Prayer Service and Sharing of Memories at 6:30 P.M. at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake.
Interment: 11:30 A.M., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
