Reverend William Harvey Colbeck, 75, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 14, 2011, at his home. He was born January 18, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the son of William and Lillian (Schalk) Colbeck.
After graduating from Chicago's Kelvyn Park High School in 1954, he attended Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls for one year. He then returned to Chicago to begin his undergraduate studies. On August 25, 1956, he married E. Joy Sandeno. They moved to New York where he served 59th Street Church in Brooklyn as youth pastor while continuing his education at Brooklyn College, graduating in 1959. They returned to Fergus Falls where he completed his seminary training in 1962. They made Fergus Falls their home and raised three children. Joy died September 6, 1994. On January 18, 1997, he married Ruthe Windahl of Fergus Falls. Ruthe died November 21, 2007. On November 8, 2008, he married Donna Ysteboe.
He was a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal during his 39 years at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. He was principal at Morning Son Christian School and served many church congregations over the years, most recently at Messiah Lutheran Church of rural Underwood. He was an Eagle Scout, Rotarian, a trustee of the Lake Region Hospital Board, member of the Board of Directors of Broen Memorial Home, member of the Fergus Falls Community College Foundation Board, member of the Board of Directors of Cardinal Homes, member of the Minnesota Education Counsel to the Commissioner of Education, and charter member of the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce Sports Hall of Fame.
Through the teaching and direction of his most influential mentor and friend, Rev. J.H. Levang, he came to an assurance of salvation through a Sunday morning message at the age of 15 while attending Calvary Lutheran Brethren Church in Chicago. He loved the Lord, his family, his schools, and his congregations. He was a servant of God, an encourager, and a leader. He had a heart and love for other people, displayed through his kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Colbeck of Fergus Falls; daughters Susan (Peter) Larson and their children, Jacob and Jori of Souris, ND; Dawn (Scott) Hanson and their children Britta and Nate of Moorhead, MN; son Scott (Debbie) Colbeck and their children Caitlyn, Elijah, and Ellie of Fergus Falls; and sister Delores Dietzel of Warrenville, IL. On Donna's side of the family, he is survived by Rachel Ysteboe of Succasunna, NJ; Thomas (Serene) Ysteboe of Fargo, ND; Michael (Barbara) Ysteboe of San Antonio, TX; Marci (John) Weisenberger of Fergus Falls; Paul (Debbie) Ysteboe of Kent, WA; John (Shannon) Ysteboe of Grand Forks, ND, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by Ruthe's children, David (Mae) Price and their son, Jack of Saratoga, CA; Daniel Price of McAllen, TX; and Jackie (Todd) Rowley and their daughter, Charlotte of Colorado Springs, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joy, wife Ruthe, and stepson, Tim Ysteboe.

Visitation: 2-5 PM Sunday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with a Prayer Service at 4 PM - and one hour prior to the service at the church
