Richard Adkins

Richard Paul Adkins, age 66, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, MN. Richard was born Aug. 11, 1945 in Minot, ND, the son of John and LaDonna (Bollum) Adkins

He was baptized in Minot and confirmed May 5, 1957 at St. Mary's Church, in Breckenridge, MN.

After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1963, he served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge Aug. 31, 1969. He spent the next 30 plus years in both sales and management for Firestone and Anderson Lubricants. During these years he lived in South Dakota, Fergus Falls, MN, and Superior, WI. His career in the automotive field led to his love of NASCAR races and his multiple trips to the Indy 500.

After retiring in 2002, he began a 10 year battle with COPD. Despite his illness, during the fall and winter of 2005, he lived in Phoenix, AZ, while caring for his older brother, Dennis. Since then he has divided his time between Battle Lake, MN and Rockport, TX. Throughout the years he enjoyed travel, spectator sports, spending time with his sons, fishing with his dad on Ottertail Lake as well as making new friends and reconnecting with lifelong ones on Facebook.

Richard is survived by his mother, sons, Rick (Julie Hegle) Fletcher of Ottertail Lake, and Barry Adkins of Grand Rapids, MN; his sisters Joan (Kevin) Quinn, Spicer; Marsha Adkins, Willmar; and his brother David Adkins, Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Cara Quinn and Stefano Follega (Sean and Luca); Mick and Chloe (Graham) Quinn (Avery, Hannah, Sophia, Tommy); Ryan Quinn; Joshua, Jennica and Tessa Adkins and Tanasha Deacon (Evoliano).

He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Dennis and an infant niece.

A Mass of Christian Burial for family is Saturday, March 17, at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar, with a memorial service and burial Saturday, April 21, 10:30, Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minnesota. Memorials preferred to Pray for Gray, Fargo, ND.
