Richard Heidenson, 88 of Battle Lake died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his home at the Lakeview Senior Living in Battle Lake.
Richard Fred Heidenson was born on March 25, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Walter and Rosella (Undem) Heidenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Chicago. He attended Steinmetz High School in Chicago, graduating in 1943. After his graduation he entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1946 in the infantry as a jeep driver in France and Germany during World War II. After his discharge Richard returned to Chicago where he attended the Northwestern University School of Business Chicago Campus receiving his Accounting Degree.
While attending Northwestern, Richard met the love of his life, Audrey Swanborg. He and Audrey were married on April 21, 1950 in Chicago. After living in Chicago for a short time, they moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois to raise their family. Richard was employed as an accountant first with the Williamson Candy Co., then Cook County Hospital and lastly Lutheran General Hospital retiring in 1985. In 1997, Richard and Audrey moved to Hills, Minnesota and in 2010 they moved to Battle Lake. He enjoyed bowling, camping, hiking, spending time with his family, was known for his outdoor fire pits and spent much of his time in service to the community including the Boy Scouts of America and Little League Baseball.
He is survived by three children, Steven (Deborah) Heidenson of Henning, Raymond (Lyn) Heidenson of Brandon, SD and Janet (Mark) Ausland of Apple Valley; ten grandchildren, Rod (Michelle) Heidenson, Kelly (Bryce Ferguson) Ausland, Theresa (Justin Teal) Ausland, Ryan (Megan) Sieler, Sean (Lacie) Ausland, Jenne (Matt) Lueker, Nicholas (Natalie) Sieler, Maxwell (Brook) Heidenson, Lee Heidenson and Daryl (Kristin Garvin) Gakin; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Heidenson of Spokane, Wash.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Swanborg of California; and by numerous relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey on April 5, 2012; son, David Heidenson; and brother, Jack Heidenson.
